Surrounding myself with good stuff

Cancel the newspaper!

A few years ago when I was in a really dark place with depression, I realized that hearing anything bad that was happening in the world, or anything scary that happened to people, deeply affected me. I couldn’t just read a newspaper and then let it go. A sad story would stick with me for hours, days, or sometimes even longer. My depression would get worse because of this stuff. I feel things on a very deep level, and I also want to help everyone, even if I have no idea how to help. This is when I gave myself permission to stop getting the daily newspaper, stop watching the news on tv, avoid negative articles that people might send me, and if anyone started to tell me a story that I could tell would end badly, I would ask them to please not finish the story. I replaced the negative with positive. I subscribed to Ode Magazine, I look at websites like The Good News Network, and I read as much positive, inspirational material that I have time for.

This helped immensely!

This made such a difference in my life. It took so much pressure off of me. I had really begun to feel the weight of the whole world on my shoulders. I felt myself going into a very deep, dark hole. I knew that if I didn’t make a change, I would not survive this way too much longer. It was such a relief to give myself permission to let it go for now. I knew that I still needed to be able to contribute to the world in a positive way, so I thought for awhile on how I could that. I realized that I am not much help to anyone when I am feeling so low. I am also contributing to the negative vibration in the world when I am feeling so low. I came to the conclusion that if I work on myself and become healthier and happier, I am contributing to the world. I help others around me when I am living from a place of joy. I impact the world when I am on a positive vibration. When I am feeling joyful, my family does as well.

Writing and Blogging

Once I started feeling better, I was able to start writing on here, and blogging on Ode Magazine’s website. It feels good to be reaching out to others who may be suffering as well.  I also contribute by including all people who are suffering, into my daily meditations.  There are other things I do as well, but I always try to make sure that the things I do, contribute to the positive. Of course, my last post, which I may delete, was in some way, fighting against something, which doesn’t feel good. I really let that bother me. Usually, I ignore certain books and writings, but for whatever reason, I picked up that book that night. Maybe I needed to be reminded of why I do avoid certain things!

Thoughts become things

So, I am back to my bubble of bliss. It doesn’t feel like denial, because I am contributing to the world in a peaceful way. I highly recommend getting rid of negativity in your life if you are suffering greatly right now. Focus on healing yourself, and surrounding yourself with things that nurture you. Find ways to contribute that make you feel good. Taking care of yourself is the best start!  Work on loving yourself first. The more people that love themselves in our world, the more peace we will have. So, you are doing our world a huge favor by taking care of yourself, and by loving yourself unconditionally!
