Clearing energy

I have a space in our house that I call my own. I meditate, relax, and go in there to be alone. We just returned from a trip this weekend, and we had someone here to take care of our animals. She slept in the guestroom, which is where my space also is. When we got back, I felt like I really needed to clear the space in the guestroom. I felt like my space had been invaded, even though I really like the person that stayed here. So, I decided it would be a good time to “smudge” the area to remove any negative or stagnant energy.

Smudging is the name given to a process called the sacred smoke bowl blessing, which is a very powerful cleansing technique that is a Native North American Tradition. Smudging is used to rid the space of negative energies and to restore balance. It is the art of cleansing your environment and yourself. It is a simple ritual that anyone can do.

I went to my local natural living/health food/New Age type store to purchase a smudge stick. A smudge stick is a bundle of dried herbs tied together with colored string. Once you get the stick, you light it and let in burn for just a few seconds or so, then blow out the flame. It will then start smoking. Just go around the space waving the smoke towards the windows if there are windows. Make sure to go to each corner of the room as well. It is also a good idea to circle it around yourself. Once the whole area is done, then the stick can be put out by hitting it gently against whatever container you want to use to keep it in, until it stops smoking.

This may sound strange or different to some people, but it really works. I know that when we moved into the house we live in now, I did this to one of the rooms in the house that just didn’t feel good. It made a big difference in how the room felt after I did the smudging process.

Let me know if you try it, and how you feel afterwards!
