Connecting on a deeper level

A few years ago, when I joined a women’s spiritual growth support group, I learned about chanting. I always thought of chanting as being something weird that I would never do. Well, I was in for a very wonderful and healing surprise! There were many different short chants that we learned that were easy to remember. Since they were easy to remember, we could all join in quickly after learning a new one. I really loved the exercise we did before started singing. We would make sounds like “Om”, or “Ah”, and make them louder or softer, experimenting with the sounds. After doing this exercise for about 5 minutes, we would stop. I loved this part because I could feel the vibration in my body, especially in my chest. To do this with other people is so powerful. If you close your eyes while making these sounds, you can really feel the positive vibrations in the circle of people that you are a part of. It is difficult to explain, but all I can say is that it is way more than just singing or chanting. It is connecting with a much deeper vibration that exists in all of us.

Help when feeling depressed or anxious

Before starting down this path of healing, I never thought about us as being energy beings. Now that I have experienced that energy, I believe it completely. I wanted to share this with you because this is a really helpful exercise when feeling depressed or anxious. It is very simple, and you can do it anywhere. Keep your eyes open if you are driving though! lol If you are not driving, you can sit in a comfortable place, light a candle, close your eyes, and just start with a low sound of Om, or Ah and hold it until you need to take a breath. At the top of each breath, make another sound, either the same one, or different, it doesn’t matter. Play around with the different sounds while also going up and down with how loud you are making the sounds.

Humming
If you are somewhere that you can’t make louder noises, try just humming a song, or just any tune. I really believe people hum a lot to themselves for the reason of calming them. It really can move you out of feeling anxious. Give it a try and let me know!

Some chants to check out
If you want to hear some of the songs that I learned, look up these songs:
I Will Be Gentle With Myself by Libana
Return Again by Shaina Noll

Also, check out the featured video. It is another awesome form of connecting with the deeper vibration that is within us all. It is Kirtan with Dave Stringer. If you have the chance to experience Kirtan, I highly recommend it!
