Live each moment as though I am on vacation!

My family and I are on vacation this week in Florida. My son and I were walking on the beach yesterday, and I realized that even though I have a pretty stress free life, it still feels like it is even less stressful on vacation.  I know, duh, right? It isn’t always less stressful, actually. Last year, my son was just getting over a horrible illness when we came here. That made me feel on edge the whole time we were here. However, when everyone is healthy, and things are “normal”, being on vacation feels pretty darn good! What I realized while we were walking on the beach is that I don’t care so much about what I am wearing, I don’t care what anyone thinks of me, etc etc. I asked myself, why is this? When we are at home I worry more about things that really don’t matter!

Vacation Mentality

What is it about the “vacation” mentality that makes us less stressed?  Okay, so the weather here is much nicer than it is where we live. The sun is out a lot more! This does make a difference. There are a lot less responsibilities here , no pets to take care of, house to keep clean, laundry to do. But, we still have to make sure the kids are taken care of, clean up after ourselves, etc. 

Just don’t care

I  want to always be able to live as though I am on vacation. Why can’t I take things less seriously when I am at home?Don’t get me wrong, overall I am a pretty easy going person. But some things do get to me. And, I am harsh on myself sometimes. I don’t like the way I look quite often, but when I am here, I don’t care so much. So, what is different about it here? Is it just the whole mentality of being on vacation? Since I am on vacation, I can be nicer to myself? What this does tell me is that it is possible to change my thoughts! This always proves to me that it is possible to choose my thoughts. Most of the time, I understand this, and I am able to do it. Sometimes, it doesn’t work! 

Things to ponder

Just some things to ponder. I will let you know if I figure it out before we leave. The ocean is like a natural antidepressant. All I know for sure is that there is something so peaceful about being near the ocean. The sun, the sand, the water, listening to the waves. Ahhhhh….
